Jumping Beans International Limited would like to thank Dr. Bruce Perry, MD., PH.D for his dedication and commitment to making a difference to the children of this world and for supervising and writing the forward to our flagship book, Move Baby Move.  We are honored to support the work of Dr. Bruce Perry, renowned US pediatrician and presenter, through a donation of part of the royalties of 'Move Baby Move' to the Child Trauma Academy. This is a not-for-profit organisation which aims to raise awareness about how a baby's brain develops in its first few years and the importance of early experiences.   
 
The ChildTrauma Academy, www.childtrauma.org  a not-for-profit organization based in Houston, Texas is a unique collaborative of individuals and organizations working to improve the lives of high-risk children through direct service, research and education. 

Mission:  The mission of the Academy is to help improve the lives of traumatized and maltreated children.  We endeavor to improve the systems that educate, nurture, protect and enrich these children - through education, service delivery and program consultation.  We work to improve individual lives through clinical assessment and treatment.

Strategy:  Essential to this process is the collaboration of all sectors of society. As such, we engage in a continuous process of identifying key partners, drawn from academia, the corporate world, private organizations and public sector systems. While each partnership has a distinct focus-- identifying best practices in child protection, evaluating the latest research in child development, defining optimal ways to provide resources to parents or creating a novel therapeutic approach with traumatized children-- all are engaged in the continuous process of testing, refining and distributing innovations that can improve the lives of children.

Bruce D. Perry, M.D., Ph.D.

Bruce D. Perry, M.D., Ph.D. is the Senior Fellow of The ChildTrauma Academy, a not-for-profit organization based in Houston that promotes innovations in service, research and education in child maltreatment and childhood trauma. The ChildTrauma Academy's programs are run in partnership with multiple sectors of the community with the goal of promoting positive change within the primary institutions that work with high risk children such as child protective services, mental health, public education and juvenile justice.

Dr. Perry audited and wrote the forward to Move Baby Move - A New Zealand Guide to fostering your child's brain development through everyday activity and is the co-author of The Boy Who Was Raised As A Dog: What Traumatized Children Can Teach Us About Loss, Love and Healing, a popular book based on his work with children.

Over the past fifteen years, Dr. Perry has been an active teacher, clinician and researcher in children's mental health and the neurosciences, holding a variety of academic positions. He continues to serve as a Senior Consultant to the Ministry of Children's Services in Alberta, Canada.

Dr. Perry has conducted both basic neuroscience and clinical research. His neuroscience research has examined the effects of prenatal drug exposure on brain development, the neurobiology of human neuropsychiatric disorders, the neurophysiology of traumatic life events and basic mechanisms related to the development of neurotransmitter receptors in the brain. His clinical research and practice has focused on high-risk children - examining long-term cognitive, behavioral, emotional, social, and physiological effects of neglect and trauma in children, adolescents and adults.

Dr. Perry is the author of over 300 journal articles, book chapters and scientific proceedings and is the recipient of numerous professional awards and honours. A native of Bismarck, North Dakota, he was an undergraduate at Stanford University and Amherst College. He attended medical and graduate school at Northwestern University, receiving both M.D. and Ph.D. degrees. Dr. Perry completed a residency in general psychiatry at Yale University School of Medicine and a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at The University of Chicago.
